Light of the World

Edinburgh, Wed 25 November, 2009

Edinburgh, 25 November 2009: Origin Scotland, one of the country's largest music collectives is pleased to announce the return to Edinburgh's Usher Hall of its annual Christmas concert featuring the Exile Band, Choir and Chamber Orchestra, and this year including as guests the choir of St Peter's Primary School in Morningside.

Around 100 choristers from three choirs, an orchestra of 50 and the Exile Band who recently released their debut album will present a programme of Christmas music both ancient and contemporary. Ministers from several denominations and churches in Edinburgh will take part in the event which marks the return to the Usher Hall of the Exile group since the venue's re-opening this past summer.

The Christmas production is a much anticipated part of the seasonal calendar in Edinburgh since its launch in 2003, and varies its content every year ensuring it remains fresh and relevant. Great efforts are made to ensure that ticket prices remain low despite the high production costs of the show, and tickets start at just £6 (£5 concessions).

Light of the World is on at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on Saturday 5th December at 7.30pm. Tickets (from £6 (£5 conc.)) are available from the Usher Hall Box Office on 0131 228 1155 or online at www.usherhall.co.uk.

About the Exile music collective
Origin Scotland was founded in 1997 and with an offshoot group in Cape Town South Africa (2005), and created the Exile collective. Named for the slaves following the style of Gospel music used in their early days, Exile comprises an accomplished band, choirs and an orchestra mixing both professional and talented amateur musicians and singers. Their first album was released in Edinburgh in May 2009 comprising 12 all-original tracks representing the vast range of styles with which the group is familiar.

Origin Scotland has presented programmes in major venues in Edinburgh including the Edinburgh Playhouse, Festival Theatre, Usher Hall and in 2007 at the Highland Hall at Inglistonl; and has conducted programmes around the UK and in Africa as well as performing regularly as part of the Fringe Festival where they have enjoyed sell-out show status.
